When to Visit Botswana
Botswana offers rare game viewing opportunities and incredible birdlife year-round.
Game viewing is at its best during Botswana’s winter months of May to October, when little rain makes for excellent land-based drives as well as river viewings. Temperatures are enjoyably hot, between 25 - 30°C and animals are seen in abundance as they congregate near water sources. June to September is a particularly pleasant time to visit, when the Okavango River floods, rain is rare and there are fewer mosquitos.
Between October and April, temperatures rise to their hottest levels, sometimes as high as 40°C. Greener surroundings take over and high predatory action resulting from antelopes giving birth, make for some thrilling viewing opportunities. November to April is when rainfall is at its heaviest, especially in January and February offering some relief from the heat. The rains ease up from March to May and give way to bluer skies with few clouds and pleasant temperatures.

Getting to Botswana
Flights from the UK to Botswana vary in journey time based on your carrier and require connecting flights via Johannesburg or Cape Town. Speak to your retreat designer about turning a Cape Town or Johannesburg stopover into a short stay of its own, as part of an exciting South Africa - Botswana multi-centre itinerary.
From Johannesburg or Cape Town, you’ll arrive into Maun Airport or Kasane International Airport before a light aircraft transfers you to your lodge, giving you the opportunity to take in the Okavango Delta from the spectacular view above.
Itineraries which start with trips to Victoria Falls will arrive into Victoria Falls Airport or Livingstone Airport, both of which can be reached directly from Johannesburg in just under 2 hours.
