Nine beautiful islands born from volcanic eruption lay hidden away in the North Atlantic Ocean, making up the Azores. Home to several active volcanoes, this secluded Eden offers a contrasting array of landscapes... green countryside, tropical vegetation, rugged coasts, vast lakes and volcanic sand beaches to name a few. Each island holds its own unique charm, from the criss-crossing stonewall vineyards in Pico to the hot pools of São Miguel and the white sandy beaches of Santa Maria to the tropical waterfalls in Flores.
Whether you’re a fan of adventure sports, an avid photographer, a food and wine buff or a wildlife and bird enthusiast, this hidden paradise offers something for everyone. Wildlife enthusiasts in particular will cherish the dolphin and whale species which frequent the waters around the islands and can be seen whilst on boat excursions from São Miguel, Pico or Faial.
Whilst you could easily spend an entire retreat on just one island in the Azores, hopping between the nine islands is a wonderful way to enjoy more of this secluded archipelago. With daily flights operated by Sata Air Azores, going between several of the islands, island hopping in the Azores couldn’t be easier. Ferries are also a great way of getting from island to island.

When to Visit the Azores
Weather in the Azores can be highly unpredictable but the warmer, sunnier days tend to fall between June and September with daytime temperatures of 25°C. July and August are the busiest months and going either side of this peak period can be great for avoiding the crowds.
Rainfall is heaviest during the months of November to March but scenery is still strikingly beautiful and with daytime temperatures of around 18°C, trips to hot pools around the islands are made all the more special.
Weather during the months of April, May and October can swing either way, but for those looking to watch whales, April and May are the best months. Although, some whale species are found roaming the waters all the way through to September.
Transport links both to the Azores and between the nine islands can be reduced during the rainier months but we’ll be sure to make sure your itinerary works around seasonal transport links.

Getting to the Azores
Direct flights from the UK to selected islands in the Azores are available, although many routes include a stopover via Lisbon or Porto in mainland Portugal.
Speak to your retreat designer about turning a stopover into a short stay of its own, as part of an exciting multi-centre itinerary. Upon arrival, we’ll have your private transfer ready and waiting to take you to your Azores island.
